Devaragudihal Lake, one of the biggest lakes under Indian Railways, was built in 1907 to provide water for the railways in Hubballi.

It can store 1935 million liters of water and is located 12 km from Hubballi and 32 km from Dharwad.

For the past 7-8 years, the lake’s water supply system was not working but has now been fixed by the South Western Railway.

The lake will again supply water to railway colonies and pit lines in Hubballi. Water from the lake flows through underground pipes to the Ahobalpur pump house, where it is filtered and pumped to two overhead tanks, each holding 2.5 lakh liters, before being distributed.

In the past, the Southern Mahratta Railway had its main offices in Dharwad due to water shortages in Hubballi, but the Devaragudihal Lake was built with a bund to solve this issue.
